Hi SavSani Family,

So after a week of reading our wonderful journal entries and creating actionable, achievable goals, now what do you do?

Well, you should reward yourself!

Rewarding yourself is the best part of completing your goal and helps you to stay on track to accomplishing your goal. With a reward, you have something to look forward to and something to keep you motivated on those days that you don’t want to wake up for that 5am run.

What type of reward should you give yourself? Well that completely depends on your budget and the type of goal you are creating. If you goal is tone your body and loose body fat, then maybe once you’ve achieved your goal you treat yourself to a new article of clothing. Whatever your reward is, it is important that you keep it within reason. Evaluate your budget, and make sure the reward matches the goal.

So there it is family! Our tips to remaining focused, and on tasks in 2012! Let us know your thoughts on how to stay on tasks in 2012!

Hi SavSani Family!

So like many of you, I am always “connected” to the internet. From the moment I wake up in the morning, my iPhone is attached to me as though it were another fabulous accessory. Early this week, I spoke about the importance of writing down your resolutions using pen and paper. While I still believe that’s incredibly important, there are some other tech devices and apps that you can adopt in order to help you with your resolution.

Are you trying to say more organized this year? Then turn to one of my favorite apps, TeuxDeux (pronounced to-do). This app is great as it provides you with a simple way to write down the many things you have to do during the day/week. I generally sit down every Sunday, write down all my To-Dos and then enter them into the website. You can also download the app for about $2.99 for your iPhone, and you’ll have all of your information synced up there. I love the app, and it keeps me productive and on task.

If you’re looking to stay healthier this holiday season, check out MindBloom. Mindbloom’s app is free in the App store and it helps you turn your iPhone into a source of inspiration for all of your resolutions and activities. Best of all, the app is free!

Do you guys have any other apps that you use to help you keep on track with your resolutions? If so, let us know!

Hi SavSani Family!

So you have written down your actionable goal, now what? Well, its time to start keeping tracking and holding yourself accountable for your actions. Now, this is probably one of the toughest parts about keeping your resolution, being honest with yourself. Sometimes, everyone needs a cheat day, but those cheat days can often add up and become habits.

Our goal in creating resolutions and goals is to replace our bad habits (smoking, drinking too much alcohol, leading a sedentary lifestyle) with good habits (not smoking, working out, eating sensibly). If we continue to let our old habits linger as part of our lifestyle, they will never truly leave our bodies.

So how do you remain accountable? Well one very simply way is to write it down. As I explained yesterday, writing down your actions makes them tangible and a part of your life. Another way to remain accountable is to have a trusted friend work with you to maintain your goal or resolution. When we have a partner, we can work off each other’s energy and stay focused on the task at hand.

So, write down your actionable goal and make sure you stay accountable! Tune in for our post tomorrow, on how technology can help you to remain focused on your goals!

Dear SavSani Family,

Yesterday I spoke about the importance of creating resolutions that are actionable. Hopefully you have taken some time to think about what goals you would like to achieve for this year.

Today I am going to talk about the importance of writing down your resolution. Why is it important to write down our goals? Well once something is written down, it becomes tangible. Once a goal is tangible, we are less likely to put it aside.

In this age of digital, we often think that writing our goal down means using a Word document. It does not. While digital technology has advanced our society, our mind, body, and spirit is still structured to recognize and understand handwritten information. It is for this reason that I encourage all of you to write down your goals! Writing them down, as I said before, is the first step in ensuring they become a healthy and active part of your life.

So find a journal or even a scrap of paper and write down your actionable goal. We look forward to seeing you tomorrow to talk about Step Three of sticking with your resolution!

Happy New Year SavSani Family!

With 2012 upon us, making resolutions is in the air! Many of take the first part of the new year to make a resolution, only to have that resolution fade into the background for the rest of the year. We at SavSani are committed to providing our clients with the ability to improve their lives on every level. This include your mind, body, and spirit.

With that, this week we will start a new series. How to keep and maintain your resolutions. Resolutions and goal setting are important parts of our lives. It is important to understand our goals, and then learn how to maintain them, making them integrated into our lives.

When creating goals and resolutions for the new year it is important that they are actionable. This means the goal should be clearly defined and achievable. For instance, if your goal this year is to run a marathon, you must evaluate your physical condition. Are you a seasoned runner or a novice? If you are a novice, running a marathon this year may not be achievable. Setting your goal at an achievable level, such as running a 10K.

By creating an achievable goal, you are providing yourself with the opportunity to be successful. One of the pit falls in creating goals is that we are too ambitious and our ego gets the best of us. It is important the we evaluate our mind, body, and spirit before we undergo the task of setting goals and resolutions for the year. Once we have achieved a goal, we can then take that goal one step further. Goals are not set in stone friends, they can be revised! It is also important to understand the goal should not be easy. Goals should also provide you with a challenge, but an achievable challenge. This is one of the most crucial steps because it means one must evaluate themselves and put aside their ego.

So, with this advice in mind, start thinking of your resolutions for the new year! Let us know what you’re thinking of doing and turn in tomorrow for the next step in making resolutions!

Teaching yoga to over 63 kids is no easy task, especially at 7:00am. The challenge is to keep them engaged, working hard, and ove’ course give them a wonderful Savasan. In teaching kids of a variety of ages, it is important to provide variations in each of the poses, allowing those who are more advanced to be fully engaged in the class, while encouraging the beginners.

Being able to teach yoga and give back to the community is a core tenant of the SavSani work ethic, and something that we all cherish.

We’ve been celebrating a lot of holidays this month, and that’s because its one of the holiest months in the Hindu Calendar, Sravanamasam.

Today, we are celebrating Krishna Janmashtami, which celebrate the birth of Lord Krishna, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu.

Here is a little history of the festival:

The ritual is to fast the previous day (Saptami, seventh day), which is followed by a night-long vigil commemorating the birth of Krishna at midnight in the jail where his maternal uncle Kansa was keeping them captive, and his immediate removal by his father Vasudeva to a foster-home for safe-keeping.

At midnight, the idol of the infant Krishna is bathed, adorned in new clothes and jewellery, placed in a cradle and worshiped. The fast is completed after aarti, a special prayer. At day break, ladies draw patterns of little children’s footprints outside the house with rice-flour paste, walking towards the house. This symbolizes the entry of the infant Krishna into his foster-home i.e. their homes.

Here’s how the festival is celebrated around the world:

Rasa lila, dramatic enactments of the life of Krishna, are a special feature in regions of Mathura and Vrindavan, and regions following Vaishnavism in Manipur. While the Rasa lila re-creates the flirtatious aspects of Krishna’s youthful days, the Dahi Handi celebrate God’s playful and mischievous side, where teams of young men form human pyramids to reach a high-hanging pot of butter and break it. This tradition, also known as uriadi, is a major event in Tamil Nadu on Gokulashtami.
